Okay, let's talk vitamin D. If you are somebody that has MTHFR and you're taking vitamin D, this is probably one of my favorites. It is very, very highly absorbable and very pure. For anybody with MTHFR, those two things become the most important in deciding what kind of supplements that you want to take. So a medical grade vitamin D3. The other thing I like about this is one drop, one single drop, is 1,000 units. So you don't need a lot to go a very long way. It has 1,500 individual drops, so you know when you get this you're going to have it for a while. Again, a really clean, very pure, very good D3. All right, science nerds, let's talk about vitamin D. So here's the thing. Vitamin D is super-important when it does its most basic function. So, when it's low, it does lots of gut health and repair types of jobs. When it gets a little bit higher, so from a lab standpoint anything from about 35, 40, it starts functioning as a vitamin, meaning it turns on and turns off reactions, and is a critical component to a lot of reactions. Above that number, vitamin D is an immune supporter, right? So as far as general health and immune strengthening, vitamin D plays a critical role in immune modulation. So anybody with MTHFR wants to always keep their immune strong and it's because it's easy to acquire toxins that can tie the immune up, and distract it, so having enough D3 on board becomes essential.

I like this product because it's medical-grade. It's very, very pure from a bioavailability standpoint, so how much of it actually gets in, it's very, very high concentration. Here in the office we've largely moved away from vitamin D as a pill, and we've gone more to these drops, because the absorbability looks to be much higher. That's to say oftentimes we'll do blood tests over here, the things that we were using previously, so vitamin D pills, they may work for some folks, but most people that have any kind of gut dysbiosis, they may not absorb D in the same fashion. So what I like is 1,000 units per drop so it's very easy to find the dosing that you need. And again I like the absorbability of this product.

One thing to note, science to science, is the fact that vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, like A, E, and K. If you take a fat-soluble vitamin, but you don't take it with fat, chances are it's just gonna wind up in your poop. So, as far as whether you take vitamin D eating or not eating, fasting or non-fasting, fat-soluble vitamins always with fat. So if you want to have it with a handful of almonds, if you want to have it with a little bit of olive oil, with an avocado, but if you take your vitamin D with fat you'll get a much better result.
